31DC2013 Day 6

Hey, hey, hey!  Its Friday!  Soooo...yesterday was supposed to be blue day, but  I was unable to prepare a post in time because I was celebrating my mother in-law's birthday!  Instead I got to get some good grub and spend time with the family!  I did originally try to paint my nails blue in the morning with the idea that I would dash home, stamp, and photograph them but of course other obligations called my name again and I didn't have time.  So, there I was sitting with a blank blue canvas when I decided to add some purple stamping on top.  Its kind of like day 5 (Blue) and day 6 (Purple) all in one!  If you have glanced down at the photos your probably saying; "That is not blue with purple, that is blue with blue!"  I would totally agree if I didn't paint them myself.  I've noticed my camera has had problems with certain colors in the past, I guess this is just another.  Both colors look much darker than they actually are, I suppose I should try to figure out why that it.   The colors I used are Essie Bikini So Teeny and Pure Ice Jail Bait. I tried to find swatches of Pure Ice Jail Bait online, but all I found were bottle shots.  However, you can clearly see it is technically purple!  That all being said, I love how it turned out!  The stamp I used is BM 306.

Happy 4th of July!

Happy 4th everyone!  Here in beautiful Florida, it is not so sunny...its quite rainy.  But!  Thats fine by me, I enjoyed waking up to the sound of rain and now have a mini lake outside my apartment.  Im crossing my fingers that it will clear up later, but if it doesn't I suppose I can curl up and watch the fireworks on TV.  For now though, lets check out what I've got going on for my 4th mani!  I've actually already worn another patriotic mani courtesy of Glitter Daze, but haven't shared it yet.  I also still have to put on my JINDIE-Pendence by Jindie Nails which I think I will do after writing this post!  I see I got side tracked again, so back to what I have to share now.  Currently I am wearing my Julep America and China Glaze Frostbite.  I know what your thinking; "Its summer and your wearing a polish called Frostbite?"  LOL  yes, I am.  It was the perfect blue to go with Julep America!  Its probably one of my favorite blues now that I've worn it.  I will say that both nail polish companies have greatly improved their formula/brushes since these two polishes.  I had minor issues with both polishes, each one had teeny tiny brushes that were difficult to work with.  For the China Glaze I had to use 3 coats to finally achieve its full glory, and the small brush was difficult to work with.  Now the Julep I bought last year during the fourth, was just getting into indie nail polish and never got around to wearing it.  So, it sat for a year before being touched.  I noticed it did get a bit goopy over the course of the year, but I suppose that is kind of expected with such a glitter packed nail polish.  I also noticed my brush had a few stray pieces flaring out.  Luckily both these brands have improved their quality of product since then!  I am not saying either of these polishes were horrible, but that they put up a bit of fight.  The fight was well worth it though, I love each polish and cant wait to use each one again!  Have fun celebrating tonight where ever you are!

Julep Maven Box-April

Hi everyone!  I'm so excited because I can say "Hi everyone" and there is actually a "everyone" now!  Thanks to a couple new followers, 17 to be exact!  Im so excited to be finally connecting with others who enjoy nail polish as much as I do, this is all thanks to many helpful ladies in a couple Facebook groups I am in.  Side note; this is a bit of a lengthy post, but I had a lot to say!

So, I have been a Julep Maven for a while now, I started sometime around summer of last year.  The first two polishes I got were Mischa and Georgia, I remember this because my Mischa came broken!  The awesome people at Julep immediately replaced the polish, with ANOTHER broken bottle!  Crazy, I know!  Julep once again replace my Mischa and finally the third one was the charm!  Ever since then I have been eagerly awaiting for my Maven box to arrive in the mail every month!  There have been a couple skipped boxes, and one golden box, but I have never blogged about my box.  I always think about blogging about it, and then when it comes in the mail I tear into my box and immediately think, "Dang!  I forgot to take photos before ripping into it," sometimes I try to repackage everything to get some photos.  Ultimately it never works, and I always say "Next time."  Well, I finally remembered to hold my horses before tearing into the box like a wild banshee!

This month I went with the Boho Glam box which came with Kaylen and Lena, and I added on Abbie and Mackenzie.   I have never ordered the whole collection, and this time I had pretty much decided to be bad and do it, but alas everyone else had decided to do the same thing and it was sold out!  Oh well, I will get the rest eventually I suppose.  I thought it would be fun to do something using all 4 of the polishes, so I did a simple half/half design using the ones that came in the Boho box together and the ones that I added on together.  All of the polishes were great, however I noticed that when Kaylen dried it had this matte plastic-y look to it.  I actually kind of like it, but don't think its supposed to do that...I have had one other polish do this before too, but with a little top coat every thing is cool!  I knew it would be easy to layer Mackenzie over Abbie, but was wondering about Lena going over Kaylen.  I was pleasantly surprised with Lena, the coverage was great!  I basically had to do one swipe with it.  I also must say I really love Lena, I cant wait to use it by itself, Lena is definitely my favorite of the four.  So, now that I finally remembered to take photos before wildly tearing into my box, please enjoy them!    Please excuse the "ehh" photos of the box itself, I will do better next time!  :)
